Concepts

Having a full details diagram of the fact types and object types is great, yet sometimes an even more condensed diagram is desired. For people getting a high level view on how information entities are connected, without being troubled by the structure of it.

Typically this allows domain experts to talk freely about their data and how they perceive it, without digging into exact verbalizations yet. Such a diagram can be simple derived from the FCO-IM model files.

The core entities are available to be dragged onto the diagram area for easy viewing.

The diagram has an automatic layout engine. The sliders on the right panel allow the user to tweak the parameters of that.

  • Rotational - Equalize the angle of the connected lines
  • Neighboring - Pull nodes closer together
  • Distance - Preferred relaxed distance between nodes
  • Damping - Slow down movements
  • Pulling - Strength of the pull between two connected nodes
  • Pushing - Amount of pushing of elements against each other
  • Area - Attempt to get closed areas of edges to align
  • Gravity - Gravitational strength
  • Speed - Speed of movements
  • Freezing - Level of freezing and defrosting once elements sit still.
